N.C. Central dominates NSU in 6-1 win

 

The Norfolk State women's tennis fell to North Carolina Central, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Norfolk State women’s tennis fell to North Carolina Central, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 23, at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.

NSU dropped to 1-2 in the conference and 3-3 overall while N.C. Central improved to 1-0 in the MEAC and 2-2 on the season.

In the No. 1 doubles match, Olesya Palko and Aissa Muamba defeated sophomores Yvonne Kamegne and Laura Gutierrez, 8-2. Mia Ramic and Brianna Gatson claimed an 8-1 victory over sophomore Kia Batiste and junior Maryna Kariuk at the No. 3 spot. The No. 2 doubles match featuring freshman Andrea Macchiavello and sophomore Mafalda Lhorca against Ekaterina Nekrasova and Rebecca Wood was abandoned at 4-7 after the Lady Eagles clinched the doubles point.

Senior Rebecca Graff claimed NSU’s only win of the afternoon with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Gatson in the No. 6 singles position. Macchiavello led off the singles competition with a 4-6, 1-6 loss to Palko. At the No. 2 spot, Nekrasova posted a 6-0, 6-2 win against Kamegne. Gutierrez competed at the No. 3 slot where she fell to Muamba, 6-0, 6-2. In the No. 4 singles match, Wood claimed a 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 6-1 victory over Lhorca. Kariuk rounded out the singles competition with a 1-6, 5-7 loss to Ramic.

NSU returns to action on March 2 when they travel to Florence, S.C., to take on Bethune-Cookman in the MEAC Southern Division Round-up. Play begins at 2:30 p.m.
